Gerald-John Vanderwoude started this petition to Michael White (Development Permit Board Ex Officio Associate Vice President)

UNA/UBC is proposing to deposit down a "temporary" asphalt basketball court on one of the few remaining green spaces that Wesbrook Community enjoys every day.  For those with small children, families, who walk dogs, or people who have experienced the heat dome this past summer, this terrible idea should be defeated.

There is a limit to how much our community can cram into it.  Already we have 3 daycares, a waterpark, 2 electric car charging stations, a volleyball  pit (really...a beach for 1 month of volleyball for the year?), an evo car parking centre and the exit route for ALL delivery trucks to Save On Foods which rumble by several times a day.  Given the recent heat dome last summer, the last thing we should be doing is adding more asphalt of that magnitude.  It is environmentally irresponsible.

UBC Properties Trust and UBC Campus Planning announce a one hour open house in the middle of a business day for UBC employees.  11:30 to 12:30 in just 13 days!  This is a ludicrous consultation effort which appears intended to minimize input.  Our community is staff and faculty members living in rental units.  We are at work when this "open house" is happening.  How is this consultation?  We get to do it via email?

So here is my petition and about me. I am the Assistant Dean, Faculty Operations in the Faculty of Arts.

Our community needs to organize, we need to communicate and they need to hear us. If you want to stay connected to this issue, sign up at my website that I created late last night to fight this.  Please sign up with email and I will help defeat this idea and fight to have the correct home for this basketball court.  I am very good at this type of thing.  Site is found here

Please sign below.  Save a greenspace.  And let it be the school it eventually needs to be without all this "quick fix" approach.
