Stop Toxic Mosquito Insecticide Spraying in Stratham, NH

Residents of Stratham, NH are being exposed (without their consent) to a toxic cocktail of chemicals found in the Duet Dual-Action Adulticide mosquito insecticide, being sprayed on a weekly basis throughout many neighborhoods for the towns "Mosquito Control Project", conducted by Dragon Mosquito Control. You will recognize this is a truck with orange safety light that drives through neighborhoods and sprays a heavy cloud of insecticide into the air.

This product contains (3) main ingredients: sumithrin, prallethrin, and piperonyl butoxide. Although the manufacturer states that this product is perfectly safe for humans, independent studies have found otherwise.

Piperonyl butoxide is especially harmful to the developing fetal brain. A 2011 study, conducted at Columbia University and published in the Journal of Pediatrics, found that infants whose mothers had been exposed to low levels of piperonyl butoxide (PBO) during their third trimester showed delayed mental development by the age of three. Many other studies have been done (just search Google) and have found the same results, that PBO poses a profund risk to infants in-utero.

Sumethrin is a known endocrine disruptor, neurotoxin, and likely carcinogen. In 2005, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revoked permission to use sumethrin in flea and tick products after thousands of cats and kittens were poisoned and killed by its use.

Bottom line, this stuff is DANGEROUS and the residents of Stratham are being exposed to this on a weekly basis from June-September. We did NOT consent to this sort of exposure and it is our right as citizens to breathe clean, healthy air.

Please join me in this petition to the Stratham Town officials to re-evaluate the use of this and any chemical based insecticide. There are many natural solutions to mosquito problems that do not involve spraying toxic chemicals into our air, and we will work with the town to identify healthier solutions to the mosquito problem.
