Stop the zoning change to allow an apartment complex to be built in Southchase Orlando
Why this petition matters
Stop the "Planned Development Zoning Change CDR-21-11-337" which would change the zoning from Commercial to Residential for parcels 24-23-29-0192-20-050 and 23-24-29-8238-02-000 which would convert 32,340 square feet to 280 multi-family residential dwellings which would be 3 to 4 stories high.
The location of the requested zoning change is part of the Southchase Planned Development on West Wetherbee Road. Generally located west of S. Orange Avenue and south of Wetherbee (next to the current 7-11 store.
The Zoning change meeting is to be held on November 15th of 2022 at 2 pm at the Orange County Board of Commissioners, located at 201 S. Rosalind Avenue, Orlando, Florida on the 2st floor.
If permitted, this will add over 500+ vehicles to an already overburdened traffic corridor, whose infrastructure does not safely support the current daily vehicle traffic. The added vehicles will increase the safety concerns to an already overburdened, underperforming and insufficiently planned road traffic pattern.
The change, if permitted will also add more students to Southwood Elementary, South Creek Middle School and Cypress Creek High School. According to the November 1, 2022 "Enrollment Summary by School" report on the OCPS website, both South Creek and Cypress Creek are already over capacity.
- Southwood Elementary School's Capacity is 571 with 533 students enrolled.
- South Creek Middle School's Capacity is 1132 and has 1141 students enrolled.
- Cypress Creek High School's Capacity is 2763 and has 3474 students enrolled.
If the Board of County Commissioners allows this change, the area will be negatively impacted. Please sign this petition if you are unable to attend the zoning meeting in person.
*If you plan to attend and speak out at this meeting, please ensure you register at the front counter when you enter the Board of Commissioners building.
