STOP the White Oak 230 kV Delivery Point Project
Why this petition matters
On August 12, 2022, parts of the White Oak/Elko Community received notification that Dominion Energy plans to install additional transmission lines to the White Oak Technology Park for the benefit of industry moving in, or expanding, and to the detriment of the health and welfare of the community.
According to the map that can be found on Dominion's website at https://www.dominionenergy.com/projects-and-facilities/electric-projects/power-line-projects/white-oak
This map shows three proposed alternative lines, all of which run through neighborhoods, close to a middle school and through wooded areas to reach the substations currently located within the Technology Park. Each of these lines would connect to the current transmission lines that parallel the Henrico/New Kent line east of the Technology Park.
Upon closer examination, there appears to be a transmission line currently running into the park from the direction of Portugee Road which is in the Technology Park. These lines pass the Portugee sub-stations and appear to terminate at the White Oak Sub-station.
Be it known to Henrico County and Dominion Energy that the citizens of the White Oak/Elko area are AGAINST the installation of the transmission lines currently proposed as; Alternative 1, Alternative 2 and Alternative 3.
Opposition is based on four reasons:
1) Installation of these transmission lines will destroy the beauty of the area, negatively impact the wildlife, as well as take parts of lands already owned and maintained by homeowners.
2) Installation of these transmission lines will have a significant detrimental impact on the value of the properties the lines will cross or sit close to. Thus having a negative impact on the landowners ability to sell the property, if they chose, at fair market value.
3) Multiple studies have shown that the electrical fields from transmission lines have a significant impact on the health of those living close to the lines. There have been a number of cases showing living in proximity to these lines causes cancers.
4) There is currently a transmission line feeding the Technology Park from the Portugee Road side of the park. That transmission line has already had the impact on the area and is not close to residential properties. Therefore, it appears that connecting any new lines to those transmission lines will not impact the residential property owners either financially or health wise. It also will not be near a school.
Therefore, if Dominion Energy wishes to install additional transmission lines to the Technology Park, those new lines should be contained INSIDE the park and not be installed in areas currently developed with homes or schools. The new lines should be connected to the Portugee line.
We, as homeowners and residents of the White Oak/Elko area are 100% AGAINST the proposed installation of transmission lines; Alternatives 1, 2 and 3 as outlined on the Proposed Map revised 8/3/2022.
