Why this petition matters

Sandy Hook. Charleston church. Orlando nightclub. Buffalo market. Tulsa clinic. The devastating Robb Elementary massacre. When will this end? The Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas shooting took the lives of nineteen young scholars, two adults, and injured seventeen others. In the Buffalo grocery store assault, ten shoppers were murdered and three were injured.

Policymakers see no urgency or relevance to gun safety legislation. Politicians continue to "send  prayers" instead of enforcing laws that prevent those who mean harm from owning guns. Nevertheless, eighteen year olds can purchase shotguns, rifles, and ammunition. Possessing a gun, in many cases, is easier than renting a vehicle.

Guns spare no age, race, gender, sexuality, or religion. We are all at risk of gun violence in our places of worship, schools, grocery stores, and other public places. We cannot even escape gun violence while jogging to keep in shape or resting in our homes. It has been ‘triggering’ to witness families being torn apart by gun violence. Fear and uncertainty dominate our minds with questions like, "Am I Next?". We must turn our tears, anger, and conversations into action.

Join the fight and sign the petition to support:

  1. H.R. 1446 Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021: Increases the amount of time, from 3 business days to a minimum of 10 business days, that a federal firearms licensee must wait to receive a completed background check prior to transferring a firearm to an unlicensed person.
  2. H.R. 7910 Protecting Our Kids Act of 2022: Prohibits the sale or transfer of certain semiautomatic firearms to individuals who are under 21 years of age and bans the sale and possession of large capacity ammunition feeding devices

Additional limitations placed on the purchase of firearms:

  • Implement psychological and medical evaluations. [Two-thirds of mass shooters had a history of mental health concerns.]
  • Enforce the completion of character references. [Before the incidents, more than 80% of mass shooters exhibit ‘peculiar’ behavior (e.g., anger/violence/suicide) that was noticeable to others.]

Action is imperative to pass new lifesaving legislation. Sign our petition and call your U.S. Senators to demand they support the Enhanced Backgrounds Check Act of 2021 and the Protecting Our Kids Act of 2022 to secure our futures from gun violence!
