CO2 has been used for over 40 years in the shipping of fresh strawberries from California, Florida and Mexico to grocery chains across the US and Canada. This hazardous gas is released into our environment, at a count of millions of pounds per year at their final destination. The largest users of CO2 for strawberries are WALMART, COSTCO, KROGER and many more across the US.
With everything that we have learned about CO2, why are we continuing to pollute the air we breathe? CO2 levels have hit an all time high, at 400 ppm. There are other environmentally safer methods for preserving fruits and vegetables during transportation that do not include the addition of CO2.
