Stop the Trudeau Liberal's Tax on Employee Discounts
This petition had 42 supporters
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has proposed new guidelines to tax employee discounts. Specifically, when an employee receives a discount on purchased merchandise, the value of the discount would be added to the employee’s income.
Taxing employee discounts eliminates any advantage workers receive from employee discounts, and would add to the tax burden faced by Canadian families.
Employee discounts serve as an appreciation measure for employee’s service to a company by providing financial relief when purchasing goods or services. The proposed tax changes would require employers to track all discounts given to employees, and then add the total to each employee's earnings each year. This administrative burden will deter many companies from providing employee discounts, and would threaten the standard of living for lower and middle income Canadians.
Taxing employee discounts contradicts the Trudeau government’s rhetoric on fighting for the middle class. It also provides a glimpse of the Liberal government's agenda of making Canadians pay for their out-of-control spending. If the Trudeau Liberals are willing to tax employee discounts, what's next?
If you agree that the CRA’s proposed tax on employee discounts is unfair, please sign this petition. Canadian families can not afford another tax hike!
