Please sign this petition to stop the transfer of Nord Stream 1 turbines to Russia! 

It is shocking and disappointing that the Liberal government has decided to allow the Nord Stream 1 turbines to be sent to Germany and returned to Russia. This decision goes against the sanctions Canada imposed on Russia in response to the illegal invasion and genocide in Ukraine. 

After such a show of solidarity with Ukraine, the Trudeau government displays just how weak it is to Russian influence, once again proving that Canada is not a world leader when it bends to the will of a terrorist state. This is heartbreaking to the Canadian-Ukrainian community here and abroad. The Canadian government cannot uphold its claims of supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity with actions like this.

This decision does not have the support of Canadian citizens and is a blatant violation to the sanctions imposed on war criminals. Please support the Ukrainian Canadian Congress in their request to immediately reconvene the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee to discuss this decision.

I urge everyone to take action, sign this petition and speak up against this decision. The Canadian government can not go back on its word and on the sanctions that are imposed on Russia. 

Returning the turbines would allow Russia to continue using energy as an instrument of hybrid war against Europe. This permit also extends to other Nord Stream turbines that will need maintenance in Canada. “There are six turbines in total that require scheduled maintenance,” Keean Nembhard, a spokesperson for Canadian Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson, said in an emailed statement. “The permit covers until the turbines are returned as needed.” It is important to recognize that Russia does not actually need these turbines to supply gas to Germany. 

Ironically, the Canadian government also promises to apply new sanctions “to land and pipeline transport and the manufacturing of metals and of transport, computer, electronic and electrical equipment, as well as of machinery”, it said. These words mean nothing, just more false promises that it will reverse if Russia asks them to. The sanctions imposed on Russia are failing and we can't let this continue. We cannot let the Canadian government get away with this, please sign the petition and bring attention to this issue.
