Stop the Top 2% from Buying California's Election
In less than four weeks, Californians will vote on Propositions 30 and 32, but the Koch Brothers and a handful of their super-wealthy friends are trying to buy the election. Only we can defeat them.
These rich oligarchs want to kill Prop 30, so they can avoid paying their fair share in taxes. This would cause $6 billion of ADDITIONAL cuts to our public schools, community colleges, and universities in JANUARY. They also want to silence the voice of the middle-class in California politics by passing Prop 32, so no one will be able to stand in the way of corporate lobbyists in Sacramento.
The same Republican club from Orange County that brought us Citizens United -- the Supreme Court ruling that made corporations “people” and allowed them to form Super PACs so they could spend unlimited funds on political campaigns -- is flooding the airwaves with lies and distortions to manipulate progressive voters.
Prop 30 raises income taxes on the top 2% of Californians to fund schools and vital services. Prop 32 pretends to be "campaign finance reform," but it would only increase the power of corporations and Super PACs by silencing union members -- folks like firefighters, teachers, and nurses. The L.A. Times has called Prop 32 "a fraud to end all frauds."
