Letter to
U.S. House of Representatives
U.S. Senate
President of the United States
We have a crisis on our hands. Thousands of teachers are due to be laid off throughout the country, and thousands more teaching positions will be lost to attrition because of steep state and local budget cuts.

It is not the fault of our children that the risky behavior of Wall St. financiers and bankers has led to a deep recession; but it is our children who will suffer if these cuts occur.

Meanwhile, providing smaller classes is one of the few proven ways to improve achievement, keep students engaged and on track to graduate from high school and go to college. We simply cannot afford to let their education be undermined, which will surely have a damaging effect on our nation's economic future as well.

Economists have estimated that the value of class size reduction is twice as high as the cost. It's time to support our schools, and our children, in the right way, by providing them with the funds necessary to keep our teachers working, and our classes small enough to give our children a real chance at success.

Yours sincerely,
