WE ARE X-ANNY, PATRICK, SIANI, HASSAN, ASMA, JAYLON, AND NYREE. WE ARE WORKSHOP STUDENTS AND WE WANT TO TAKE ACTION TO STOP THE SCHOOL TO PRISON PIPELINE

THE PROBLEM: According to the Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund, “The school to prison pipeline is the policies and practices that push our nation's schoolchildren, especially our most at-risk children, out of classrooms and schools and into the juvenile and criminal justice system.” Each school year, nearly 3 million K-12 students get suspended and over 100,000 get expelled from school. The offenses range from simply not following directions, to hitting or kicking, to more serious behaviors like getting caught with drugs or a weapon.”

THE RESULT: It’s also said that children become antisocial and in our opinion these kids can become either more violent, closed off, or they could be traumatized. The goal is to help kids, not scare them. These teens will not hesitate to run away or self harm because of mental health.THE SOLUTIONS: According to school counselor.org,  8 million children do not have a counselor at  school and twenty-one percent of high schools don’t have access to a school counselor. According to neaedjustice.org, “By re-balancing and redirecting resources to school counselors, restorative justice programs and other proven methods to address student health and wellbeing, we can ensure our students have opportunities to learn and thrive.”

For alternatives we want to propose that instead of kicking kids out of classes or schools that for the schools have mediations instead of automatically going to harsher punishments they talk about it instead. We also want to propose that if the person's problem is with the class they can switch the classes. We want to ask for signatures to help solve this problem and make it happen.
