With the growing changes in today's society, many people from the recent generation are retaliating against taking standardized testing. They are saying that there are other ways to measure a students skill level. We make this petition to take action on the difficulty that is standardized testing. We are 4 high school students who want to make a change in our community so that the future generation does not have to suffer.

After reading various articles by different authors, we found that many colleges are already deciding to not give a heavy importance to the SAT or ACT scores. Then, we must ask, what would be the point of taking these tests if they are not even considered? Would we just be wasting hours of our time for something that may not even matter to college admissions, rather than spending the time for school or gaining a new experience? As high school students, we can attest to the stress and difficulty of studying for a standardized test. There is always pressure from peers, parents, and ourselves to do good; otherwise we might not be able to get into a good college. But if we got rid of these tests, we can guarantee that there will be changes in student's performance, inside and outside of school.

It is not just students who are affected by standardized testing, the parents are also having to carry this burden. They are the ones that have to pay for all the materials we need to study for these tests. They spend hundreds of dollars for classes, books, and actually taking the test. There are people in the world who can not afford to pay for these things, and they might not even be able to go to college because they can not afford to pay these fees; and colleges want a submission of standardized test scores.

After the recent college scandal, there have been many talks about whether or not colleges will still continue to check scores because the scores may not be authentic. Therefore, if standardized testing was not a requirement then the students will not have to spend their time studying for these tests. Instead, they can go out and do something for their community. They will be able to get a valuable experience rather than staying indoors and studying.

One other solution would be, to have teachers in our school to implement the topics of these tests into our curriculum. This will help us because we would be learning skills that are beneficial to our lives, instead of things that we will not be using.

There might be many petitions like this, but if we continue signing petitions for this cause we may be able to see a CHANGE.

Thank you for contributing to our cause, and we hope that this cause is as dear to you as it is to us!
