Wake Green Park Management Limited wants to sell an area known locally as The Dell, which is on the privately owned Wake Green Park Estate in Moseley, Birmingham.
 
The woodland is a designated nature conservation area as per a 1985 planning order from Birmingham City Council. The Dell is home to protected British plant and animal species. The records for the woodland at The Dell date back to 1890 and are very near to Sarehole, where the young J R R Tolkien lived. It is highly likely that the young Tolkien explored The Dell before writing The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.  
 
The land, if sold for housing development, would cause irreparable damage to the local environment. Some animals living here cannot be housed anywhere else and are protected under British law. There is also a Tree Preservation Order on the site.  
 
This important woodland area’s planned sale and further development must be STOPPED. Save The Dell now! Please show your support by signing this petition.
