Bamz Lauwae started this petition to Department of Health; Department of Hawaiian Homes Land

The State Department of Health is tentatively proposing to issue a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit to discharge storm water associated with industrial activity and certain non-storm water from the Kohala Coast Concrete & Precast.

The facility is a ready mix and precast concrete service and is located at 61-3264 Maluokalani Street, Kawaihae and is located above the makai Hawaiian Homestead.

It is stated in the notice that the waste would be entered into the Pacific Ocean classified as the open coastal waters at that location and the receiving water is also subject to area specific criteria for the Kona (west) coast of the Island of Hawaii.

These waters are frequented by swimmers, kayakers, paddlers, fishermen, etc. and the effect of the waste being dumped into our ocean would be detrimental to marine life and their ecosystem.  We must protect our natural resources and I humbly ask for your support. You are welcome to submit a letter of your own which can be submitted to the email below.

We have 30 days from July 30, 2020 to submit comments and letters and request a hearing. Letters may be emailed to: cleanwaterbranch@doh.hawaii.gov

By signing this petition, you are stating that you are opposed to allowing the Department of Health to issue a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination system permit to Kohala Coast Concrete & Precast and you request that a public hearing be held.
