Every year, Columbia College Chicago gives out free t-shirts to students and staff as a part of the annual Manifest festival. 

It’s estimated 25% of clothing dumped in places such as Kantamanto are t-shirts that were given away for free; which is more than any other clothing item. Thrift stores are full of novelty t-shirts, and when they aren't resold, they are dumped in landfills. 

"Free" t-shirts means the cost of production is as low as possible. Which means that these are probably not produced ethically either. 

Promotion does not have to mean waste!
