A little effort and editorial discretion can spare inflicting harm on others. While there needs to be room for understanding, grace, and civility when people make mistakes, thoughtless speech that hurts people (being "politically INcorrect" is not a worthy end in itself).

Because it reflects what the transphobic press in the UK (and other countries) want themselves to believe and in doing so incites transphobia to it's readers who then belive it is fine to refer to us as 'he' (or 'she' for trans men) or to refer to us in derogatory terms

We do not ask for special treatment.

We only ask for the basic respect that any human being should hope to receive.

The press must now take responsibility for the misery and damage caused by the corrosive language they use.

Trans people are one of the most stigmatized section of society. Mis-gendering language is the mean by which this stigma is held in place and reinforced! It has to stop!

Because trans people are one of the few minorities that the press seems to think its ok to poke fun at and encourage there readers to do the same . Theses so called harmless comments when heard many times by the person on the receiving end can do so much harm and make the persons life a misery and in extreme cases can lead to people taking their own lives .

We need to start treating every one with respect

I am signing because I hope it will lead to a situation where inappropriate language is used to describe transfolk in a way that encourages prejudice and bigotry.... if laguage were used in a more accurate way it might help bring greater understanding of what is a very traumatic medical condition!..
