Why this petition matters
In this country, breeding your dogs is not regulated. Spay Neuter is not required in most states. The general public has no idea that shelters, that are paid to "shelter" the lost, tell people to just let the dogs go, that they will more than likely find their home. Shelters are also not intaking dogs anymore. If an owner tries to surrender their pets, they are told sorry, we are full and have no space and we can not take your pet. Now, most owners try to surrender their dogs to an open admission shelter, which the vast majority of county shelters are. Their dogs are not fixed. A lot of people are simply dumping them on the streets, and you guessed it, they are breeding, producing more dogs that are unwanted, and have no safe place to go. The no kill movement is a pipe dream, it will never work until we stop the unwanted dogs from being born in each county of FL and overwhelming an already taxed system of shelters. We need to demand that the state of FL mandate spay neuter laws. If we all as a rescue community come together, establish a trust that we all donate $100.00 a year too, the millions of us that want change, and want to do better for the animals we so love and fight for, we can hire lobbyists to represent us and demand new laws that make sense. The no kill movement has raised millions of dollars and what have they done with that money? Bought private planes, yachts, homes, all the while dogs are living in horrid conditions, being on the streets of starvation, untreated mange, worms, fighting with each other till death, or so injured it takes days for them to die being picked on by flies ants and vultures. Hit by cars, some are killed, and some crawl off to die slowly. There needs to be commons sense change. We owe it to them! There can be no kill in any county if there is no birth first. It can be done. It has been done. Northern states import dogs from other areas because they have stopped the problem at its source. We are not talking about responsible breeders, we are talking about Joe who bought a Golden puppy for his daughter, throws the puppy in the back yard, is not fixed and the dog finds a mate and has puppies that are mixed breed. Who are then not vaccinated, not vetted at all and given away to continue the cycle and most of them will end up in a shelter. It is time we stop this insanity. Please join us to make a change. This petition will be delivered to all counties in FL that are turning dogs away, due to the no kill movement, which is clearly not working. We can not rescue our way out of this problem.
