Stop the Move of CAB from Haltom High School to Tarrant County College

The Issue

My daughter, a dedicated tenth-grade student at the Collegiate Academy at Birdville (CAB) in Haltom High School, along with many of her peers, faces impending disruptions to her educational path. The proposed move of CAB to a standalone campus at Tarrant County College (TCC) threatens the familiar and supportive atmosphere they have come to value.

This transition means our children, from grade 9-12, are set to attend classes exclusively at the TCC campus, detaching them from the richness of a comprehensive high school experience including all extracurriculars and events.

While providing an authentic early college experience is indeed valuable, we must question at what cost? The all-inclusive development of a student encompasses not just the pursuit of higher education, but being part of extracurricular activities, sports, prom, homecoming and other quintessential high school experiences. These will be significantly impacted, and perhaps lost, if this move is made.

The American Psychological Association underscores the importance of social ties, peer interaction, and diversified experiences in promoting overall well-being amongst students. Let’s not deprive our children of such significant elements of their schooling years.

Our children were promised a "normal" high school experience as well as the program would help move our children into a 4-year University or college, with this move our children will be at a huge disadvantage when applying to a 4 year without having the extra curriculars on their applications.

Our appeal here is simple: sustain the current arrangement of keeping CAB within the comforting boundaries of Haltom High School. Let our children thrive not just in academics, but also in the essential high school experiences that foster their comprehensive growth. This petition urges the decision-makers to reconsider this move for the best interests of our children. Please support us - sign this petition today.
