There have been targeted shootings of tens of stray dogs in the Kingdom of Bahrain recently. 

The strays who are victims of this heinous act had been dumped in Askar, a remote industrial and labor accommodations area, and were only surviving on kind hearted volunteers’ efforts of providing them with food and water (in addition to  medical attention as necessary).  Some of the victims were participants in the Bahraini government funded CNR (catch-neuter-release) program and had been neutered. They were very friendly dogs who caused no harm to anyone. 

 

Veterinarians performed X-ray and necropsies on the deceased dogs and confirmed gunshot wounds as the cause of death. 

 

In Bahrain, only police and military are authorized to carry firearms and have access to ammunition. 

 

We demand the Authorities in Bahrain to take immediate action put a stop to this mass shooting. This barbaric and cowardly act has shocked the entire community and does not serve any purpose other than tarnishing the reputation of Bahrain. We appeal to the government of Bahrain to take a stringent and comprehensive approach to tackle the issue of strays in a humane and civilized way by:

1- Taking strict action against anyone who harms or kills the strays by shooting, poisoning or beating (or any other means).

2- Allocating land to set up a sanctuary for the strays where volunteers will monitor and assist in running the sanctuary. 

3- Continuing to financially support the CNR program.

4-Working closely with volunteers on the ground who have been a great asset in assisting the government’s CNR program. 

5- Banning (with strict enforcement) the importation of animals for commercial purposes (i.e. with intent to sell the animals) and the breeding and selling of animals in Bahrain 

6- Activating the GCC and Bahrain’s legislation on animal protection against cruelty.  

7- Mandating the microchipping of every owned dog and cat and the spay/neuter of every owned dog and cat over 6 months old and imposing a hefty fine on pet owners who fail to do so. 

 

We urge the Bahraini government from this platform to stop this massacre immediately and take steps to ensure the safety of Bahrain’s animals.

أوقفوا مجزرة الكلاب الضالة في مملكة البحرين

 

تم إطلاق نار مستهدف لعشرات الكلاب الضالة في مملكة البحرين  في الأشهر الماضية ومؤخرًا.

 

حيث تم وضع وتجميع الكلاب الضالة التي كانت ضحايا هذه العمل الشرير في المنطقة الصناعية في عسكر ، بقرار رسمي من البلدية و هي منطقة نائية  صناعية و منطقة اقامة عمالية، و  كانت الكلاب المشردة تعيش فقط على جهود المتطوعين الطيبة لتزويدها بالطعام والماء)والرعاية الطبية االلازمة)اغلب الضحايا  كانوا  مشتركين في برنامج  بتمويل من الحكومة البحرينية (الاخصاء للذكور و التعقيم الإناث) .هذه الكلاب معروفة بلطفها مع الجميع  وكانوا يتميزون بالود و لم يتسببو بضرر لأي أحدا. 

 

بعد نقل جثث الكلاب المقتولة قام الأطباء البيطريون بإجراء الأشعة السينية و تشريح الجثث. أكدوا أن سبب الوفاة هو جروح ناجمة عن طلقات نارية.

 

في البحرين ، فقط الشرطة والجيش لديهم الإذن بحمل السلاح و الوصول إلى الذخيرة.

 

‎  نطالب السلطات في البحرين بالتحرك الفوري لوقف إطلاق النار الوحشي حيث صدم هذا العمل القاسي الشرير المجتمع بأكمله و لا غرض منه إلا  تشويه سمعة البحرين بين دول العالم . لذلك نناشد حكومة البحرين باتباع نهج صارم وشامل لحل أزمة الكلاب الضالة بطريقة إنسانية  وحضارة ومهنية من خلال الآتي

 

١- اتخاذ إجراءات صارمة ضد أي شخص يؤذي أو يقتل الحيوانات الضالة عن طريق إطلاق النار أو التسمم أو الضرب (أو بأي وسيلة أخرى).

 

٢- تخصيص الأرض لإنشاء ملاذ للحيوانات الضالة حيث سيساعد المتطوعون في العمل مع الجهات الرسمية للعناية بهذه الكلاب المسكينة. 

 

.(٣- الاستمرار في تمويل برنامج (الاخصاء و التعقيم 

 

٤- العمل والتنسيق مع المتطوعين الذين كانوا يمثلون  

.(ميزة كبيرة في مساعدة البرنامج الحكومي (الاخصاء و التعقيم

 

٥- حظر (و بشكل صارم ) استيراد الحيوانات للأغراض التجارية وتربية وبيع الحيوانات في البحرين

 

٦- تفعيل التشريعات البحرينية والخليجية في مجال حماية الحيوان من القسوة.

 

٧- فرض شريحة إلكترونية لكل كلب وقط مملوك لشخص وذلك لكل كلب وكل قط يزيد عمره عن 6 أشهر وفرض غرامة كبيرة على أصحاب الحيوانات الأليفة الذين لا يفعلون ذلك.

 

‎من هذه المنصة ، نحث الحكومة البحرينية على وقف هذه المجزرة البشعة على الفور التي تنافي الرحمة والمبادئ الإنسانية واتخاذ خطوات حضارية جدية لضمان سلامة حيوانات البحرين
