if the decree is not withdrawn we will engage in an international boycott campaign of tourism and products of Slovenia

With culling, the country's brown bear population would be reduced from about 1,000 to about 800 animals. The court found that the planned culling would not "damage the maintenance of a favorable conservation status of the bear population in Slovenia"

In fact, the organization is convinced that any kind of permission to shoot bears is illegal and that, in accordance with international and Slovenian legislation, it is only permissible to shoot those bears that have been proven to attack or pose a threat to property or people. But the administrative court, in its judgment, for which a three-member panel made a decision on June 16 this year after reviewing all the documents and hearing two witnesses, wrote that the lawsuit was unfounded and rejected it.

Regarding the reduction in the brown bear population from the current estimated 1,000 bears in Slovenia to around 800, the court, based on the evidence presented, ruled that the permitted shooting of 222 brown bears “will not harm the maintenance of a favorable state of preservation of its population in Slovenia”. The court, taking into account the explanations of the witnesses heard and the findings of the expert article, also “could not follow” the claim that the interest of protecting human health can be achieved by individual shootings.

As, among other things, the administrative court summarized in the judgment, the state states in the justification of the permit that it was issued on the basis of the regulation on protected wild animal species and that it determined the removal area based on the expertise of experts from the Ljubljana Faculty of Biotechnology, the Forestry Institute of Slovenia and the Forestry Institute of Slovenia. In the explanatory statement, he explains that the removal of brown bears from the wild is justified due to increased conflicts resulting from high densities of bears and characteristics of relationships within the species.
