Stop the illegal practice of culling of dogs

Not only is the practice of culling of dogs illegal, but it is also inhumane. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in India, Ms. Jayalalitha, has already issued very clear directions to all the Municipal Corporations in Tamil Nadu that the culling of dogs is illegal, as well as allocated public funds to all corporation, specifically towards an Animal Birth Control (ABC) program. The program has a long track record of effectively decreasing the number of homeless dogs in India (www.bluecrossofindia.org).

Many credible reports have been received that the local police will continue with the practice, even warning local dog owners that they were going to have another such operation to kill more homeless dogs. The barbarious method involved beating the dogs with a log and then throwing them in the corporation's garbage truck. Many of the dogs suffered extensively after the cruel beating, eventually loosing control of their bladders during their tortuous deaths.

As humans, how we treat the weakest members of our society is a measure of our humanity. We are better than this!
