We MUST stop the new build/development of 49 Canterbury Rd, Whitstable, in its tracks.

The principal problem is its vertical expansion - we accept that it was bound to be developed into flats, but it has now ‘grown’ upwards, becoming overbearingly intrusive to neighbouring homes & gardens, profoundly affecting people’s privacy and quality of skylight, causing increased noise pollution and having a negative effect on the monetary value of their cherished homes.

We as a community are fearful that if this building is allowed to continue, it will set a dangerous precedent which risks allowing similar, totally inappropriate and insensitive architecture to spoil the beautiful, beloved and iconic Conservation Areas that characterise our treasured town.

The development has apparently NOT YET RECEIVED Planning Permission for the amendments/variations of design, and we, as the immediate community, have NOT been properly consulted.

The building that is currently taking place is NOT COMPLIANT with the original plans that we were shown some time ago.

We have the power to stop this development and to ensure that the build follows its initial, more acceptable format, and show building companies that they CANNOT simply stick up whatever monstrosity they like to gain as much profit as possible, to the detriment of our wonderful community.
