Why this petition matters

LET'S STOP THE NUKE DUMPS!

OPG, a multibillion-dollar power generation corporation, is seeking authority to create a nuclear waste dump 1 kilometer from Lake Huron's shoreline. The Dump will run underground for around 400 meters below the level of the lake. For over 100,000 years, some of this radioactive waste remains toxic and dangerous. The fresh water of the GREAT LAKES, which is used by 40 million people in two nations, is jeopardized by this spill.

This advocacy informs us to stop the dangerous and deadly waste on these beautiful shores and to also help stop the climate change that has been happening up until now. The project has been opposed by environmentalists and residents who feared the potential damage to the Great Lakes. The utility insisted the project was safe. Any risk of buried nuclear waste entering the world's largest body of fresh water is too enormous to take, and it doesn't have to be taken.
