Why this petition matters

Started by Jeremy White

Santander Bikes in London are used by 11 million people every year for everything from commuting to shopping to sightseeing.

This has been a blessing to Londoners, providing cheap, green and fast transport to the masses.

Previously users were able to pay £2 for 24 hour access, paying a further £2 for each journey longer than 30 minutes.

Santander have recently changed their pricing model to £1.65 for each 30 minute journey.
For commuters the result of this will be that they may end up paying just as much as a tube or bus journey whereas before they would be able to pay only £2 a day. For tourists or those who use the bikes for weekend activities with multiple stops, this will make Santander bikes unaffordable.

This new policy is also in direct contradiction with Santander’s stated aim to provide “a fun, healthy and sustainable way to get around … and save on travel costs” as well as “being kind to the environment”.

Winning this petition will mean keeping Santander’s pricing the same at a time when cost of living is already increasing in many other areas.
