STOP the erection of Telecommunication Masts in residential areas!
Why this petition matters
Telecommunication Masts/base stations are mushrooming all over residential areas without the consent of the community. These telecommunication Masts aren't done without the owners' permission for a piece of land or property. Landowners or earmarked property receive compensation for having sold or leased their land to a telecommunication firm. Telecommunication masts have been sited inside schools, churches, and residential homes.
For residents who live close to the mast, the telecommunication firm feels their consent isn't needed. This means that neighbours will have to deal with noise and vibration (from the masts' generating sets), radiation, smoke, and associated health impacts. The WHO paid attention to the effects of telecom mast radiations on sleep, blood flow, cognitive functions, and general well-being. The report concluded that there may be alterations to sleep, and blood flow caused by exposure.
Even at low levels of radiation, telecommunication mast Health hazards are pointed out include the following:
- Evidence of damage to cell tissue and DNA.
- In one such study, it was revealed that: During the first 3-5 years of exposure, people suffer from sleep disorders and melatonin reduction which leads to immune deficiencies.
- From 5-7 years, neurological problems become noticeable with headaches, confusion, and memory loss.
- After 10 years, serious disorders such as cancer occur and health damage becomes irreversible.
Community residents need to stand together and put an end to telecommunication firms from erecting masts in their communities and not allow greed to jeopardise the health and well-being of their community members. We will WIN because the power lies in the hands of residents who will unite together and refuse to sell their community out to telecommunication firms.
We Lose if we allow greed, selfishness, and profits to be placed above People, Life, Health, and well-being.
