Tobacco related diseases kills about 2500 Indians daily and it is estimated that about 5500 youth and children (as young as 8 years old), initiate tobacco use daily. Although these facts send chills down the spine, our Indian actors think that the money they get for these surrogate ads, outweighs it all.
In February this year, Gutka sales crossed ₹100 Cr. a day and is projected to reach ₹200 Cr. by 2020 according to IMARC's latest study. Owing its growth to the lucrative ad campaigns by top Bollywood actors, pan masala companies continue to grow their consumer base. 'Jugaad' sees its ugliest faces when these brands use supplementary products to build a brand name in place of their primary, life-threatening and carcinogenic products.
Therefore, it becomes the moral responsibility of the actors guild, if not legal, to impede the endorsement of pseudo products of these treacherous companies. Also, i would request the government to write an open letter chastening these type of activities by famous public personalities.
