Ty is a Kidney Patient, he has "Nephrotic Syndrome", and this is our Story and Petition to help bring change. This is a plan that was put into place by the Principal of the school Ann Hodson-Foret and her committee.
Children with Disabilities and Special Needs are being punished under the PBIS Program, in Lockport Upper Elementary School in Lockport Louisiana.
This school view's "Excused Medical Absences" as "Non Positive Behavior" This includes children with "Special Needs and Disabilities."
If a child misses school, even for "Doctor Appointments" it is considered "Non Positive Behavior" and the child is "Not Allowed" to Participate in the Rewards Day Event/Party.
Lockport Upper Elementary has our child sitting the event out with other children that do indeed have behavior problems in a classroom doing "SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS."
This is solely based on our childs health condition, he is being denied access to school wide programs because of his Nephrotic Syndrome.
This is "Affecting" the mental and emotional well being of my child!
"THIS IS A DISGRACE" to our child that has had enough obstacles to overcome without "feeling being ill, is the same as being bad."
What is Lockport Upper Elementary telling children with Special Needs?
MAKING IT TO SCHOOL AND DOING YOUR BEST TO KEEP YOUR GRADES UP WITH GOOD BEHAVIOR DESPITE YOUR CONDITION WILL NEVER BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE PBIS PROGRAM. BECAUSE YOUR NOT HEALTHY ENOUGH TO TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR YOUR EFFORTS.
We have been told by "School Board Member's" that our child's "EXCUSED MEDICAL ABSENCES," are considered "NON POSITIVE BEHAVIOR"
According to Charles Michel Special Education Curriculum Supervisor in Lafourche Parish he feels most Special Needs Children have too many obstacles to overcome to get a good enough educations for any decent job. We were told by him at our 504 SBLC meeting that "Children" like our's usually end having to take lower paying jobs.
Our child does not have a learning disability he has a Chronic Kidney Condition called "Nephrotic Syndrome" that requires several Doctor appointments a year to keep his condition managed to prevent further kidney damage.
