Why this petition matters

Started by Ryan Michalik

The Chicago Park District plans to add 50 new pickleball courts to the city by 2025.  Many of these new courts will convert existing tennis and basketball courts throughout the city.

The current demand for tennis courts outweighs the existing supply of tennis courts available, which are often utilized by the public schools and park district sponsored activities.  It is not uncommon to have to wait for more than an hour for a tennis court to become available.

In addition, many of the existing tennis courts are not maintained by the city. Broken or missing nets, lights that need replacing, or severe cracks in the surface limit the use.

This petition is design to stop the conversion of existing tennis courts to pickleball courts and to direct Chicago Recovery Plan funds to improving the existing courts.
