10 May 2025

District 2 Commissioner Danny Glidewell will host a Community Meeting on Monday, May 12th at 6:00 PM at the Red Bay Community Center, located at 10624 Rock Hill Road, Ponce De Leon, FL (at the intersection of Highway 81 South).

Among the issues for discussion are matters related to protecting our drinking water sources — the aquifer well heads — and Walton County communities from pollution. County staff will also be present to help answer questions. This meeting is open to the public, and all residents and business owners are strongly encouraged to attend.

Members of Protect the Emerald Coast Alliance Inc. (PECA) will be there and urge others to attend if possible, as this directly relates to the proposed Azland/Mohawk Valley Landfill at Rock Hill Road.

Protect the Emerald Coast Alliance, Inc. is not just focused on one project — such as the asphalt plant in Freeport — but on multiple projects affecting our region, including the Azland/Mohawk Valley Landfill. Our mission is to safeguard the health, safety, and natural resources of the Emerald Coast.

The County Commission recently enacted a 60-day moratorium on the landfill project to allow for further study — a deadline that is rapidly approaching.

In a recent interview with Channel 13 News, Commissioner Glidewell called the proposed landfill an "existential threat" to Walton County’s water supply, warning that it could contaminate the Floridian Aquifer, our vital source of clean drinking water. He cautioned that the area could become a "ghost town" if the project moves forward.

This issue affects us all. Please join us and make your voice heard.
