Stop the City of Brazil Indiana and residents from illegally dumping and burning!
Why this petition matters
Hello! We are Joel and Kristi Campbell and we are residents of Brazil, IN. Recently, we have had an issue with a large amount of smoke from a nearby resident’s property. The smoke has had an irritable smell and has us and some other neighbors unwell. The first night of the issue, we noticed a dear pet acting ill. Sadly, on 10/7, the pet passed away, leaving our family heartbroken. It has come to our attention that the city of Brazil, IN has been dumping stick/leaves/wood chips at this property. Unfortunately, this residence keeps an untidy yard, with car parts, coal, and appliances, etc around as well. The city’s dumping pile had caught fire, but since the resident had other things nearby, it is hard to say what else was on fire as well. It took three days after our initial complaint for the city to extinguish the smoke, and there is still a faint smell in the air. The smell was outside our residence, inside our residence. and inside our vehicles. If the city is using this as a dumping location, and is compensating the resident/homeowner, then this classifies as a landfill and must follow all the applicable laws and codes for the state of Indiana. Also, if anything other than paper, clean wood, or leaves has been burning, this is also illegal in the state of Indiana.
We are asking that the city use a different location as a dumping ground that is a legal landfill and will be in accordance with all of Indiana’s laws and regulations.
