Victory! The External Commission is already working! Thank you all!
Oct 28, 2019 —
Hello everyone! After a strong fight, with a petition delivery in Congress, protests on the streets and Climate Week in New York, I feel that this petition can be considered as a victory!
The external commission we asked for has been in operation since September. The appropriate ministries have received the information they need to carry out inspections. There are 6 sub-rapporteurs and a meeting has already taken place with the Minister of the Environment, Ricardo Salles. At this link you can check all the minutes and documents to accompany the work of the Commission: http://bit.ly/2qAtU4P
This does not mean that we should stop putting pressure on the authorities, demanding protection of our Amazon and preparation to contain the burnings – quite the opposite. It means that a step, which was the main request of this petition, was taken. For this I am grateful to all of you who signed the petition, shared and engaged in this cause.
However, we need to remain alert that environmental crimes like this no longer occur! Right now we are living another atrocity against nature, the worst disaster ever seen on the Brazilian coast, an oil spill on the beaches of the Northeast. So I ask you all to sign Felipe Oriá's petition about the implementation of an International Task Force in the affected areas: www.change.org/NordesteSemOleo
Thank you very much once again and we are still together for the planet!
