London's last Grand Sporting venue, is set to be demolished simply for profit by developers Galliard Homes in April 2017, unless we bring the plans to a halt.
This follows approval of the planning application for a 20,000 football only stadium, coupled with a 602 home development of 'luxury' apartments, by Merton Borough Council.
Wimbledon’s iconic and historic 'Grand Stadium' built in 1928, has housedmany sports continually right up to the present day.
We, the undersigned, are asking for the Prime Minister, Theresa May MP, to stop this development.
Yes the capital needs housing desperately, but it needs affordable housing for key workers such as nurses. This development will only provide luxury housing in an area that desperately needs cheap, practical housing.
The demolition of the 'Grand Old Lady' will be a massive loss to our National sporting heritage that could never be replaced once it is lost. It will also be a massive blow to thousands of hard working families who currently enjoy Oval Motorsport and Greyhound racing in the Capital at the venue every week.
We hope you support and join our campaign!
