Decision Maker Response

Boris Johnson’s response

Dec 22, 2015 — Dear Petitioner

Thank you for the petition submitted on the website entitled ‘Save Wimbledon Stadium – Stock Car Racing in London’ that requests that the Mayor intervenes in the development proposals for the stadium site in Plough Lane.

As set out in the petition, Merton Council resolved to grant planning permission for the application on 10 December 2015. In accordance with the Town and Country Planning (Mayor of London) Order 2008, it must now be referred back to the Mayor where he has fourteen days to decide whether he agrees with the Council's Planning Committee decision, that he wishes to direct refusal where the Council is minded to approve, or that he wishes to take over the application and determine the case himself. The latter is only possible if the application passes policy tests and criteria set out in the above order. Greater London Authority (GLA) Planning officers have agreed with the Council that this referral will take place in January 2016.

The petition will be brought to the Mayor’s attention and considered as part of his final planning decision, along with all other representations made to the Council, the Mayor and GLA officers.

Yours sincerely

Public Liaison Officer
