I am a Nigerian living in Qatar, and like many others, I have been subjected to an unjust practice at the Nigerian embassy here. Nigerians seeking to renew their international passports are being extorted and charged 700 Qatari rials. This is far above the government-approved fee, which should be $77.00 - $137.00, depending on age.

This arbitrary extortion is illegal and a gross violation of our rights as Nigerian citizens. It burdens us an undue financial burden and creates unnecessary hurdles in our efforts to maintain valid identification documents while living abroad.

The approved fees for passport renewal, according to Nigeria's Immigration Service, are as follows: For minors (0-17 years old), it's $77.00; for adults (18-59 years old), it's $106.00; and for seniors (60 years old and above), it's $137.00 [source: Nigeria Immigration Service]. Charging us 700 Qatari rial, approximately $192, is clearly against these regulations.

We call upon the relevant authorities to investigate this matter urgently and ensure all charges align with the government-approved fees.
