An SUV recently killed my wife’s colleague while he was jogging. SUVs kill pedestrians at least twice as often as other cars do according to a 2018 Detroit Free Press/USA Today study. SUVs are a major reason that pedestrian deaths are up 59% since 2009. The government has known about this for years but won’t take any action due to the power of the automobile industry.

The government must act! Either SUVs should be banned outright or else a large fee should be imposed on buyers of new SUVs to compensate victims of traffic violence AND a federal education campaign should publicize how much dangerous these vehicles are.
