Anyone older than 42 in this country did not have to pay for their university education - this includes the majority of those now in government and in positions of influence in the UK. Today interest rate repayment for students is expected to rise to 12 percent - and its compound. The strain of loans and unconscionable interest rates and repayment terms added to the rise in living costs is destroying the health of our young people. It is time to stop this iniquity and to make the people who insist university must be paid for pay for it.

Most student loans are never repaid in full. Yet if those over 50 who went to university in the UK were charged a minimal tax a large proportion of university costs would be repaid and few would feel any financial discomfort. 

If our petition succeeds, we will free our young people from often suicidal depression and enable them to study free of major financial worries and to embark on their careers without debt. We will also free up badly needed and strained NHS resources.
