Stop Spraying Glyphosate in South Wairarapa Playgrounds
Why this petition matters
I recently learnt that the South Wairarapa District Council use glyphosate to spray weeds in and around the playgrounds. Being a mum of two young children I care about reducing the amount of toxins we are exposed to and think a playground should be a chemical free space. I don’t want my children getting cancer later in life because of playing at local playgrounds. We have a responsibility to look after our younger generation and their environment.
Glyphosate has a bad reputation for a reason. There are many articles naming different health concerns connected to glyphosate exposure; including kidney and liver damage, hormone and infertility disruption, altered gut microbiome which affects immunity and nutrition absorption. Many studies found glyphosate in urine sample of urban and rural residents where it had been sprayed.
FIGO Health and Environmental Committee want glyphosate use stopped because it is a hormone and fertility disruptor.
The WHO Internation Agency for Research on Cancer categorises glyphosate as a probable carcinogen (cancer causing) for humans.
Over 42,000 people have filed law suit against Monsanto Company alleging that glyphosate caused non-Hodgkin lymphoma and thousands of dollars are being paid out to them. A lot of effort has gone/is put into covering up tracks and stopping regular testing for pesticides and herbicides by Monsanto.
The list goes on and on, please feel free to read the linked article.
