We, the radiologic technologists of the state of Tennessee, call on the state legislators and Tennessee Medical Board to remove the new state licensing requirement for technologists who are already certified and credentialed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. ARRT is a leading credentialing organization that recognizes qualified individuals in medical imaging and are adequately qualified to determine a technologist’s competency. There is no need to add another burden to Tennessee’s radiologic community at a moment when radiology departments and hospitals are understaffed and struggling to maintain a full workforce. To put these actions in place in such a swift and ineffectual manner places patients at risk as a result even more severe understaffing as most technologists are unaware of the new requirements and not prepared to meet the quickly approaching deadline.
