Stop schools penalising medical conditions alongside non attendance.
Stop schools penalising medical conditions alongside non attendance.
For too long children with genuine medical conditions have been penalised when it comes to attendance in schools. They miss out on rewards for 100% attendance and are treat the same as children who have poor attendance due to just not attending school.
During the last year of covid, children who have been off school suffering with covid have received letters from schools pointing out poor attendance and threats to place the children on ‘report’.
There should be differentiation between absence due to a genuine medical condition, and simple non attendance. This would allow children with medical conditions to be included in any rewards based systems for attendance. It would also allow parents of those children not to feel as if they are failing their children.
