Why this petition matters

                                            AN APPEAL FOR PEACE

To

          Mr. Viladimir Putin

          Hon’ble President

          Russian Federation, Kremlin, Moscow, Russia.

Hon’ble Sir,

St. Mother Teresa, the beacon of love and charity lived for the poor and died for the cause of peace and amity. She spread love and compassion throughout the world and brought relief and hope to the children, the destitute, the sick and the dying. She is a living symbol of compassion to the world and a living witness to the thirsting love

Mother Teresa Charitable Trust and its executive units Mother Teresa Forum and Mother Teresa Drivers Welfare Association are special status NGO of the United Nation’s Economic & Social Council (ECOSOC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). It is a humanitarian organization working for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden in the society irrespective of caste, creed or religion.

Being involved with the welfare and well-being of the people and being inspired by the ideals of St Mother Teresa, we strongly feel that the war that is raging in Ukraine is destructive, causing unacceptably huge human sufferings, rendering millions of people homeless into severe inhuman conditions and resulting in unprecedented migration of women, elderly and children as refugees into the neighboring Countries for sheer survival.

War is a war, and whatever may be the provocation it is destructive, which causes huge losses of human lives, unbelievable human sufferings and unwarranted economic disaster.

At the height of the Siege of Beirut in 1982, Mother Teresa rescued 37 children trapped in a front-line hospital by brokering a temporary cease-fire between the Israeli army and Palestinian guerrillas. Accompanied by Red Cross workers she travelled through the war zone to the hospital to evacuate the young patients. The Ukrainian war has brought death and injuries to thousands of mothers and children, as is visible to the whole world.

Mother Teresa’s extensive work among the refugees from Bangladesh in 1971 is still remembered by all, for it had gained momentum after the 1971 Bangladesh war. An estimated 10 million people had fled to India, mostly in the States of West Bengal, Assam and Tripura.

Today the Mother Teresa is not there, but had she been alive she would have reached the war zone to work for the most distressed human beings and fight for peace.

We the Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa Charitable Trust and its execution wings Mother Teresa Forum and Mother Teresa Auto Drivers Welfare Association earnestly appeal to your conscience to kindly stop the war at once and sit for negotiations adopting the Gandhian way and sort out the issues by diplomacy and discussion, so that the panic stricken people of the entire world will get a ray of relief.

Without going into the merits of the political and strategic tussle between the nations for justifying military action, use of force between the blocks of nations and without going into the ethnic rivalries espoused by ambitious and powerful political leaders we earnestly request you to kindly:

·        Stop the war and stop the violence, stop killing human lives, as it may lead to another World War.

·        Stop attacking Schools/ Colleges/ Hospitals and protect the world from economic destruction.

·        Human life is precious! Human lives are not meant to be lost in the Warfield! Soldiers are also human beings.

·        Both Russia and Ukraine should come forward for talks for the sake of the planet by forsaking individual likes and dislikes.

·        Ahimsa (non-violence) is the only weapon to triumph.

We Earnestly appeal to you to kindly stop the war and engage in peace talk.

“An eye for an eye will make the whole world go blind", said Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

Kind Regards

Dr.G.K.Dhas
