Everyone should be treated with respect. Institutions are built and maintained by hard workers, like facility and maintenance employees, to make our school a better place. A recent article published by Metro Pulse indicates that over the past year (April 2012 to April 2013), about 65 employees have been fired or "forced to quit" for reasons outside of their control, including incurable cancer conditions and "stiff-person" syndrome. Just because someone has an illness does not mean that they can be treated in such a way that demeans them and makes them less worthy of respect. Many employees have been moved to other buildings/jobs within the department as retaliation by the director. This is absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable. Without these hard-working employees, our beloved UT would crumble, literally. We could not function without these people. Please tell UT Facilities Services to treat their employees with respect and give them the dignity they deserve.

Please, Chancellor, look into the treatment of the workers in the Facilities and Services department. Recent articles have surfaced about the unacceptable and disrespectful treatment of these employees. We ask that this change immediately. Poor treatment of employees at the University of Tennessee reflects poorly on the University as a whole. Please stop this harassment of the people who are the backbone of this campus.
