Last year ABC 4 Corners program did a story on how the Public Trustee in Queensland and other States has virtually ruined people’s lives by taking over their properties and assets. It was unbelievable to watch but here, in South Australia, I’ve met a man that this has actually happened to. He owned his own property, had a large superannuation and other assets. He was in the Australian Navy for 20 years, serving through Vietnam and Afghanistan. Apparently 2 years ago he had a kind of breakdown (probably PTSD) and was hospitalised. Having no family, the Public Trustee moved in and ruined his life - even after a Tribunal had recommendations opposing the Public Trustee. They were/are untouchable at the expense of peoples lives. The man I know is on the brink of suicide and even though he has sought help, no one seems to be able to help. I think the Australian Government should follow up on an enquiry as to how this is being allowed to happen. I can’t believe this is happening in Australia. Please sign petition to have the Aust. Government investigate these despicable acts by the Public Trustee in each State
