NCDOT per the request of the Town of Fuquay-Varina, is planning to widen Judd Parkway from a 2-lane residential connector to a 4-lane bypass from Highway 55, extending Judd Parkway to connect to US 401/NC 42-55 and NC 42-55 intersections. 

The limits of the study area for Project U-5751 (Alternative Routes 1-3) are described below:

• West of the US 401/NC 42-55 intersection and north of US 401/NC 42/NC 55 to Broad Street, and north to Judd Parkway in Fuquay-Varina (ALT routes 1-3).
• Approximately 0.75 miles along NC 55 south from its intersection with NC 42. Approximately 1.4 miles along NC 42 east from its intersection with NC 55. 
• Approximately 0.7 miles along US 401 north from its intersection with NC 42-55.

The purpose of this petition is to let the Town of Fuquay-Varina Board of Commissioners know that we are against all proposed ALT routes 1,2, and 3 that are included with the NCDOT Project U-5751.

CONCERNS:

• ALT 3 would drive a significant volume of traffic towards Broad Street and Main Street which are both impacted on a daily basis with congested traffic.
• ALT 1 & 2 routes impact wetlands, natural areas and 3-4 homes on New Moon Court and Golden Bluff Lane. View Map Routes Alt 1 and 2
• ALT 3 route impacts wetlands, natural areas and 4-5 homes on August Moon Court. View Map Route Alt 3
• Homeowners living on August Moon Court will be directly impacted by all the ALT routes 1,2 and 3. May require removal of Smith Farms homes.
• Homeowners living on New Moon Court and Golden Bluff Lane will be directly impacted by ALT routes 1 and 2. May require removal of Smith Farms homes.
• Homeowners living adjacent to August Moon Court, New Moon Court and Golden Bluff Lane will also be greatly impacted by traffic noise, unsightly roadway and depreciation of home values.
• Increased traffic noise throughout the subdivision can greatly impact daily living for Smith Farms residents.
• With a 4-lane connector through a residential area, speeds will increase (as we have seen already on Judd Parkway), increasing the chances for  accidents involving both vehicles and pedestrians.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

1. By signing this petition, you are telling the Town of Fuquay-Varina Board of Commissioners that you are OPPOSED to the U-5751 Project widening and turning Judd Parkway 4-lane connector between Highway 55 and Main Street. 

2. By signing this petition, you are letting the Town of Fuquay-Varina Board of Commissioners know that you SUPPORT NCDOT to explore an alternative route that doesn't impact any part of the Smith Farms community. 

3. You can also send an email to all of the Town of Fuquay-Varina Board of Commissioners letting them know you oppose the Judd Parkway / Highway 55 connector (project U-5751)

4. Attend the Town of Fuquay-Varina Board of Commissioners meetings and speak out against the Highway 55/Judd Parkway extension project. The next meeting is scheduled for April 19, 2022 at 7:00pm at the John W. Byrne Municipal Building (formerly Town Hall) in Fuquay-Varina.

If you wish to address the Board on a non-agenda item, the Mayor will allow you to briefly address the Board during the “Public Comments” portion of the meeting. Public Comments are scheduled at the first portion of the Board Meeting. Near the beginning of each meeting, there is a public comment period to hear from the public about matters that are not the subject of a scheduled public hearing. Those wishing to make comments are asked to sign-up prior to the meeting with the Town Clerk who is seated just inside the meeting room.
