Why this petition matters

Started by Desiree Bond

I live at 6196 Floyd St, Covington Ga. I have an 8-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son. JAG Probation is requesting to continue occupancy at 6195 Floyd St in Covington Ga, which is directly across the street from my home. 6195 Floyd St is also adjacent to the public library and Chimney Park walking trail. This JAG office, according to the owner, been operating at this location for a year, without a proper business license. Offenders have to visit this location to drop off payments for fees/fines. This is done at all hours of the day and night. Due to covid, in the past, the employees have not met with any offenders face to face. Before covid, when JAG was at its old location in a commercial area, offenders would meet with his or her officer face to face. Offenders checking in at the office will increase as court cases increase. Five hundred or more cases monthly are to be expected. As of now this JAG Probation office has approximately 250 cases. This means more offenders will be in a residential area, vans will travel back and forth transporting offenders for community service, etc. A huge concern of the neighborhood is, there are times when offenders will feel threatened and will run into residential areas to hide if he or she is being detained. This residential area has children living in homes, elderly people living in homes and has a daycare center on the street behind the building where JAG Probation is currently operating. Sign this petition to hopefully keep this type of business out of a residential area. Ask yourself this question, would you want this type of business next to your home or next to a loved one?
