Jan 4, 2016 — NEW PETITION! WE STILL NEED YOU!

Thank you all for your support so far on this petition. We still need to keep the momentum going: our last chance to make a difference will be at the budget meeting on February 9th.

Portsmouth City Council have chosen to ignore the 45 thousand people who have signed this petition. The only way to get this issue debated at the February meeting is if we get 1000+ signatures on our new PETITION through Portsmouth City Council website. The link is below:

Cuts to domestic violence services will kill women. Don't allow Portsmouth City Council to play with women's lives!

WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING?

At the Portsmouth City Council budget meeting on 8th December 2015 we heard that the council had plans to get money from "police" or "national" funding. This is misleading to say the least. There is no police budget and Portsmouth City Council are now asking the voluntary sector to access funds on their own merit whilst simultaneously not paying for the services themselves.

This move is not something that other local authorities including Southampton and Hampshire County council have done. These authorities are paying for services. Why should Portsmouth be any different?

You may have also seen recent media with regards to Portsmouth getting funding for refuge services. This again is misleading the electorate. This money, although welcome, has to be spent by March 2016, so it doesn't prevent or stop the cuts.

These cuts are happening and Portsmouth City Council are negating their public duty in not funding these vital services.

Let's get this issue debated in the next budget meeting by signing our NEW petition!
