Why this petition matters

Started by Elliot Davis

Our issue is plastic pollution in the ocean. In addition to this it is also on the beaches. The plastic can come from anywhere and takes years to biodegrade, usually not fully decomposing so it turns into a micro-plastic. The sources of plastic debris found in the ocean are usually from land that comes from urban and stormwater runoff, littering and illegal dumping. Micro-plastics have been found in some foods, tap water and including the Arctic. Chemicals used in making plastics can interfere with the body's natural systems, causing developmental, neurological, and other disorders in both humans and animals in the ocean.  The ocean wildlife and the communities that border the water. They are affected by the environmental downfall that comes with pollution and also they can lose money because of less tourism or less open jobs. It can also affect everyone because if the beaches get too dirty or dangerous they are forced to be closed by the towns.  Our issue is seen all over the world from the tropical areas near the equator to the Antarctic. Really it affects most places around water with beaches.
