Stop! PFAS Toxic Waste Dumped at Dardanup

Stop! PFAS Toxic Waste Dumped at Dardanup
The issue
We object to Cleanaway amending their licence so they can accept thousands of tonnes per year of PFAS contaminated waste to be dumped at Cleanaways Banksia Road Landfill facility, 3 kms from the Dardanup townsite and Ferguson.
PFAS,( known as the forever chemicals because of their inability to easily break down over time) is linked to cancer, kidney disease, birth defects and other serious diseases. It can accumulate in humans, and other living species, and is highly mobile in the environment through water, the atmosphere and food chains.
PFAS contamination of groundwater has recently caused the closure of both the Bunbury Harvey Regional Councils Stanley Road Landfill facility and its Crooked Brook FOGO recycling facilities. At Stanley Road PFAS has been detected in off-site groundwater monitoring bores at the Australind Bypass around 800 metres to the west, at a concentration exceeding safe drinking water levels.
We don’t want to risk PFAS contamination of our water supply and that of the Bunbury region.
Cleanaways landfill site does have HDPE liners but they don’t last forever - PFAS does.
We might not be around when the liners fail but our grandchildren and great grandchildren will and they will have to deal with this legacy once the liners fail. The risk is too great.
There are 2 sites in the Perth metro area that are licenced to accept PFAS contaminated waste and we ask that you direct that waste including the PFAS contaminated FOGO at Bunbury Harvey Regional Councils facility at Crooked Brook to those sites and work with State Govt Ministers to ensure Cleanaways Banksia Rd Landfill facility does not accept PFAS contaminated waste.
