To the Town of Pawling Board & Planning Department:
Deny Request to Install Cell Phone Tower at 73 Cunningham Lane in Pawling, NY.
We, the undersigned, request that the Town of Pawling Planning Board deny the proposal to install a 150-foot cell phone tower at 73 Cunningham Lane. The proposed site, in the heart of a residential neighborhood with small children, is adjacent to many homes. The installation of a cell phone tower at this location would be an inappropriate non-residential use of a residential zone.
This cell phone tower would establish an unwelcome precedent for our scenic town and be out of character with the general nature, beauty, landscape, scenery, and charm of our neighborhood. Its large, intrusive shape would be visible from almost everywhere in Pawling, including the Village of Pawling, Quaker Hill, Mount Tom/Harmony Hill, Cedar Valley, Deerfield Ponds and Baxter Green. As technology migrates towards smaller transmission systems and these huge towers become obsolete, Pawling will be left with this legacy tower marring its landscape.
This cell phone tower would decrease the property value of our neighbors’ homes and send the wrong message to prospective home buyers about the quality of life in residential Pawling. Because of the intense and on-going controversy surrounding cell phone towers and the stigmas attached thereto, it will impact the prices of our homes. Wireless cellular towers and base stations are listed in the 50 Environmental Hazards to Avoid When Buying, Selling or Maintaining a Home (The Home Environmental Source Book). The locations of these facilities must be disclosed to potential buyers, just as with any other potential hazard in the area, or the sellers can be sued.
Recently, many town boards, including the nearby Town of Sherman, CT, have banned cellphone towers from residential neighborhoods for these reasons. Many localities have also protected public school sites from cell phone towers as many scientists are concerned about the potential effect of cell phone tower radiation on small children. A cell phone tower has no place next to our children’s bedrooms.
PLANNING BOARD MEETINGS ARE HELD THE FIRST AND THIRD MONDAYS OF EACH MONTH, AT 160 CHARLES COLMAN BLVD. A NOTICE WILL BE POSTED HERE THE FRIDAY BEFORE EVERY MEETING AT WHICH THE PROPOSED TOWER WILL BE DISCUSSED. PLEASE ATTEND!
