 One-time use plastics are not healthy for coral reefs. Corals are dying because the plastics tangle in the corals making it about 90 percent more likely to get a disease.

Around the world, coral reefs provide sea food, tourism income, and protection from storms for more than 275 million people.

Each year, it is estimated that more than 8 million tonnes of plastic are ending up in the oceans. In some cases microplastics get released from other plastic items like bottles,straws,wrappers,etc.
