STOP NYGH Parking Rate Increase

STOP NYGH Parking Rate Increase
Why this petition matters
To Mr. Dahdal and Planning Committee;
This is a letter to share the discontent of NYGH staff with the decision to increase staff monthly parking. The increase of 40% or more for monthly rates is unfathomable.
We are hopeful that you agree that the last 2 and a half years have been very challenging for all staff at NYGH. Over and above the difficulties we have faced as healthcare workers, the cost of living has impacted all of us as well. The cost of food, gas, rent, and housing has many staff unable to make ends meet.
All staff are disheartened and feeling very unappreciated. There are so many of us who do not have the option to work from home and are now being penalized for having to be present to take care of patients. Staff are exhausted and overworked and often working understaffed or short. Further, you may or may not be aware that many staff have had a very minimal pay increase regardless of the increase in the cost of living.
We do not agree that considerable thought was given to this decision. Nor do we feel that this is a fair or balanced approach. If we need to adjust parking rates, perhaps consideration should be given to wage adjustments first. Ultimately, this feels like staff gouging.
You have requested that we go directly to our managers or supervisors regarding this. However, we are directing this to those involved in this decision that is essentially unfair, unacceptable and unethical. We hope that you take this as an opportunity to reflect heavily on this decision and are requesting that you consider alternative options to fund these maintenance costs.
Staff are not prepared to pay this significant increase. NYGH states they are committed in putting people first in everything they do. This decision does not reflect this statement in the slightest.
